A Serious Situation

(Originally published in The Record, June 26th, 2008)

It's quite common for people who do not lead a healthy lifestyle to appear fit and healthy, but long-term affects cannot be determined until it is too late.

Smoking cigarettes from age 12 onward, too much alcohol consumption, eating too much fast food, and not exercising are some of the popular lifestyle choices today, and it is a very serious situation. More public awareness and examples of how our life could be changed forever, or how someone could face dying from a disease that could have been prevented, is definitely important and could help many people make better choices.

I believe that starting early in the grade schools and educating our next generation is essential in order to ensure they are healthier.

Leading by example means that adults should take ownership and exhibit that they can make changes for the better and the effect could be outstanding.
